About the event

Welcome to our new PopUpScience Centre.

We are open for families and young people each Saturday and Sunday from 10.00am to 3.30pm.  Drop in and join us at any time - entry is FREE.

We will be discovering different scientific concepts through our shows and activities each day in a fun and interactive way. There will be plenty of time to explore our hands-on exhibits too, and our Science Communicators will be on hand to answer any questions you have.

Join in with our show

11am  Same but different

Take the chance to be a part of a 5 billion year old story and discover why we all look a bit the same - but different! Learn about Charles Darwin’s famous voyage on The Beagle and how that helped him formulate his theory of evolution. Help us identify the similarities and differences between species, and find out how species adapt to different environments - including the very weird way marine iguanas cope with swallowing saltwater!

Have a go at our take-home activity

2pm  DNA Bracelets

We are all made of a remarkable individual code of genetic information, called DNA, which contains a set of instructions for our eye colour, hair colour and even our genders! Zoom in to DNA and get hands-on with a special craft activity to make a section of DNA from a selected species.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or carer at all times. Most suitable for children aged 7-11 years.  Younger siblings will be able to join in with some adult support.
