Great fun at Glennfields Care Home!

Something a little different for us, but so much fun!

We were invited to present one of our science shows to the residents and staff at Glennfields Care Home in Wisbech. Science communicator Joanne chose to present "Stronger by Design", where we share some fun facts and discover some amazing man-made materials that keep us safe.

There are plenty of opportunities to interact and engage with audiences in this show, and the Glennfields team quickly got involved. Residents were keen to try on a firefighter outfit and a Kevlar bulletproof jacket. One staff member even braved the seven different material layers that make up a space suit.

Katie Doiley, Lifestyle Co-ordinator at Glennfields, shared some fabulous feedback: "Just wanted to say today's visit was awesome, and we look forward to hopefully seeing you next year; everybody enjoyed it, so thank you very much."

Everyone enjoyed exploring the unusual non-Newtonian properties of custard! You may ask what custard has to do with materials! You must attend one of our 2024 'STEM events in the Fens' community PopUpScience Centres in March, Chatteris, Ramsey, and Wisbech. Keep an eye on our website for dates and details!

Our 'STEM in the Fens' project, which includes these community engagement visits, visits to local schools and our various PopUpScience Centres are made possible with the support of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority. If you would like to hear more about our 2024 plans, please get in touch with Joanne Staines on joannestaines@cambridgesciencecentre.org.
