Introduction to Micro:bits

This introduction will provide your young people with some of the basic skills and functions of a micro:bit. By practising with some starter practical projects we will begin to explore the functions of a micro:bit and the different functions it can carry out. These may include making a name badge, animation and using inputs and outputs to make an emotion badge.

More about this block of sessions

Have you ever heard of a micro:bit and do you know how to code them to light up, make sounds and more? In this six block this is what we will be exploring! Using computer coding software and the micro:bit devices, we will be answering the questions: what are they, what can they do and how do we write the instructions?

Your young people will be making interactive projects using the different features on the micro:bits, such as sensors, buttons and lights, and building up their coding skills so across this block they will be creating games, music players and making their own micro:pet!

Our home educators sessions are aimed at ages 7-11 and will take place weekly on Wednesdays from 1-3pm, running from the 6th November – 18th December (with no session on 4th December). These will be located at our new centre on Cambridge Science Park and will involve an hour of coding discovery guided by our team of Science Communicators, followed by up to an hour of exploration of our exhibits.
