Celebrating DNA Day

Weekends packed with STEM fun!

On April 25th each year, scientists and members of the public across the world celebrate DNA Day.

This annual event marks a significant milestone in the history of science: the successful completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003 and the ground-breaking discovery of DNA’s double helix structure by James Watson and Francis Crick, along with Rosalind Franklin, in 1953.

This weekend, we are celebrating this extraordinary day with a special Lab activity.

Extracting DNA from a strawberry

Can you see the DNA of a strawberry? Get your safety glasses on and perform your very own DNA extraction on a strawberry. Can you see the instructions for life with your own eyes?

Our show today will be Gums to Bum

Take a tour through the digestive system; observe what happens from the moment food enters the mouth, all the way until it reaches the toilet! See a series of revolting demos and even volunteer to help the process along the way.

You’ll have plenty of time to explore our selection of over 20 hands-on exhibits too!

Our space and activities are most suited for children aged from 5-11 years.  Of course, younger siblings are welcome to come along too!

Capacity: 50
