Space

Our holiday theme this half-term is Space!

Blast Off to Adventure: Space-themed fun this half term!

Get ready for an out-of-this-world experience as we bring the wonders of space to life at Cambridge Science Centre this half term!

With exciting hands-on activities, interactive space-themed lab activities plus our fun and engaging daily ‘Moonshot’ show, there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Perfect for aspiring young astronauts, our space-themed week will take them on a journey to the stars and beyond.

‘Moonshot’ – our show for this special week.

The Artemis program is a NASA-led mission to send people to the moon, create a base there and eventually send astronauts to Mars! Find out more about this ground-breaking mission as we explore how rockets are launched, investigate the anatomy of a space rocket, and look into some of the difficulties the astronauts might face in their quest to establish a base on the Moon.

Meteor Crash

Our Lab Activity is all about meteors!

Learn about meteor craters by crashing your own meteorites! How and why do craters form, and what can we learn about space from what is left behind?

Our space and activities are most suited for children aged from 5-11 years.  Of course, younger siblings are welcome to come along too!

SPECIAL EVENT

Thursday 20 February

Three very special shows – 11.15am 12.45pm and 2.15pm with Andrew Ferguson

They come from space!

Children, and the rest of us too, are continuously being showered by unseen muons, a heavier relative of the more familiar electron. These muons are created when energetic cosmic rays, including protons and alpha particles, hit our atmosphere and produce a shower of particles as they slow down.

Find out more and “see” the muons as they arrive from space on the muon counting machine.

NOTE: our own show ‘Moonshot’ will not run on the 20 February. Our lab activities will remain as planned.

Our space and activities are most suited for children aged from 5-11 years.  Of course, younger siblings are welcome to come along too!

Capacity limit: 50
