Blast Off to Adventure: Space-themed fun this half term!
Get ready for an out-of-this-world experience as we bring the wonders of space to life at Cambridge Science Centre this half term!
With exciting hands-on activities, interactive space-themed lab activities plus our fun and engaging daily ‘Moonshot’ show, there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
Perfect for aspiring young astronauts, our space-themed week will take them on a journey to the stars and beyond.
‘Moonshot’ – our show for this special week.
The Artemis program is a NASA-led mission to send people to the moon, create a base there and eventually send astronauts to Mars! Find out more about this ground-breaking mission as we explore how rockets are launched, investigate the anatomy of a space rocket, and look into some of the difficulties the astronauts might face in their quest to establish a base on the Moon.
Re-entry Parachutes
Landing on a planet is a tricky business. Design, make, and have tested your own parachute to land your space capsule safely! Can you land that Mars rover or team of astronauts returning from the International Space Station safely?
SPECIAL EVENT
Two very special shows on Friday 21 February at 1.30pm & 3.00pm
Astrophysics for Superheros with Matt Bothwell
“Could you crash the Moon into the Earth? If the Sun explodes, would we all get vaporised? What’s the weather like on Mercury?”
Discover the answers to these questions and many more at the Supervillain Academy: the magnificently morbid school for young villains in training. Facts about space are all well and good, but discovering that if you threw someone into a black hole, they would be spaghettified – stretched out long and thin before getting squashed smaller than an atom – is truly, fascinatingly gruesome.
On 21 February our morning ‘Moonshot’ show will run as normal at 11.15am. Our Lab Activities will run as usual throughout the day.
Our space and activities are most suited for children aged from 5-11 years. Of course, younger siblings are welcome to come along too!
Capacity limit: 50
