Bringing STEM To Your Community

As a charity we’re working hard to create a future where curiosity knows no limits. Where you live shouldn’t be a barrier to engaging with great science activities.

Throughout the year we bring fun, high-quality hands-on science out on the road and into your communities.

Keep an eye on this page to find out where we’ll be next and how you can get involved with our fabulous and fun activities.

FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS

At Cambridge Science Centre (CSC), we believe every young person should have the chance to explore the transformative world of STEM. We offer free, dedicated sessions to community groups based on what works best for you, so everyone feels welcome and included. This programme is designed to build skills and spark long term interest in STEM by offering free repeat visits to CSC and activities that connect with young people’s every day lives.

To get your community group involved or to learn more, contact our  Community Development Officer  (katyroper@cambridgesciencecentre.org) for more details.

This year’s focus is on deepening engagement with local schools and community groups across Wisbech and nearby areas. We will be open every Thursday and Friday for school and community group visits.

Interested groups can contact us at schools@cambridgesciencecentre.org to book sessions.

This project is generously funded by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.

From September 2025

We will be open for Schools and Community Group bookings on Thursdays and Fridays. Offering morning or afternoon sessions, combining a curriculum linked show and exploration of the exhibit space.

For Years 1, 2 and 3 our show is “Stronger by Design”
What makes a bullet proof vest so strong – what keeps firefighters safe and what does this have to do with custard?

This interactive show looks at the engineering behind some of the most amazing materials that keep us safe when we’re in danger. We look at the super-strong fabrics that protect firefighters from heat and flames, and we explore how clothing can protect us from on-coming bullets and the hazards of dangerous sports. With lots of chances for audience members to volunteer – introducing concepts including staying safe, forces and materials.

For Years 4, 5 and 6 our show is “Join the Crew”
How do you get into space, and what is it like to live and work there? Learn how physics got us into space and safely back home again. Experience some of the challenges of living in Space and find out how we used science to overcome these challenges.

Please contact schools@cambridgesciencecentre.org for more details and to book your sessions.
