Fossils, Stories & Concrete Science

Our special guests this Easter will be delving into new stories and subjects.

We’ve got some very special happenings this Easter at Cambridge Science Centre.

Thursday 10 April

“The Story of Mary Anning” with Dr Mandy Hartley

On Thursday 10 April, we’re welcoming the brilliant Dr Mandy Hartley, children’s author and science educator, for a truly unforgettable session: “The Story of Mary Anning.”

Mandy, who holds a PhD in Genetics, has a gift for bringing science to life through storytelling. Her passion for making science fun and accessible shines through in every session – and this one is no exception.

“Mary Anning is my favourite female scientist,” says Mandy. “She was the first female Palaeontologist, in a time when not many fossils had been found. Her story is an incredible one which children will be fascinated and hopefully, inspired by.”

In this interactive storytelling session, children will:

  • Discover how fossils are made and learn about the prehistoric creatures that once roamed the warm seas of Lyme Regis.

  • Hear the remarkable true story of Mary’s early life – including the moment at just 15 months old that changed everything.

  • Take part in a dramatic re-enactment of one of Mary’s most exciting fossil discoveries, made when she was only 12!

Whether your child is already obsessed with dinosaurs or just loves a good story, this is an Easter holiday highlight not to be missed.

Please note: This special event replaces our usual science shows on Thursday 10 April.

Monday 15 & Tuesday 16 April

“Are All Concretes the Same?” with Cemex UK Materials

Fast forward to the modern day, and we’re diving into the world of one of the most important materials on Earth – concrete! Join us for two very special lab sessions led by technologists from Cemex UK Materials, one of our Executive Council funders.

Concrete might not sound exciting at first… but did you know it’s the most produced material in the world? In this hands-on lab activity, children will explore the surprising science behind it.

Please note: This special event replaces our usual science lab activities on both days.

Plan Your Visit

These special events are included in your regular admission and are a wonderful way to make your Easter visit to Cambridge Science Centre even more memorable.

So whether you’re digging into the past with Mary Anning or getting hands-on with concrete in the lab, we’ve got your holiday science fun sorted!

Book your tickets now and don’t miss out!
